Granada is not starting from scratch in its digital transformation. Its digital economy represents over 7% of the GDP of the province of Granada (higher than the national average of 5.6%), and is particularly prominent in the ICT, biotechnology and health industries. It also stands out because it is one of the few places in Spain where the private sector is more digitally advanced than the public sector, having made determined and decisive progress towards achieving its ambition for digitalisation. However, local, provincial and regional administrations have joined together to reduce the differential in digitalisation that it suffers in the local public sector with the implementation in 2017 of the project Granada Human SmartCity. A “digital reinvention” that could have an important impact on the GDP of Granada.
