L’Aquila- map

On a hillside in the middle of a narrow valley surrounded by mountains, sits L’Aquila, the capital of the Abruzzo region. It is a city rich with art and culture, and over 800 years of history as an important commercial center connecting the north and south of Italy. Having been devastated by an earthquake in 2009 the city was forced to embark on a reconstruction process that not only considered the physical rehabilitation of the buildings, but one that also modernised utilities and improved the resilience and sustainability of all components of the city to support an ageing population while also boosting innovation and job creation for the young. The result is a digital transformation strategy that aims to produce a fertile ground for enterprise development that will enhance the urban, social, cultural and productive fabric of the city.
