Digital Cities Challenge participant Amsterdam has been ranked in the top 10 future-proof cities in the world in the new City Momentum Index 2018 by JLL.
The Index covers 131 major established and emerging markets and tracks a broad range of factors to identify cities that have the strongest short-term socio-economic and commercial real estate momentum, and those that have the future-proofing capacity for longer-term success.
In terms of future-proofing capacity, the index tries to identify the cities that are at the forefront of the innovation economy, by looking at key factors such as the number of tech firms, education, environment, transparency, infrastructure, and international patents.
The report identified the top 30 cities for long-term success, with Amsterdam ranking in 8th place, having one of Europe’s fastest expanding technology scenes, with the highest levels of tech start-ups per capita in the region.
Europe features heavily in the first-time list with 10 cities represented, but the United States leads with 12 cities on the index. To download the full list jll.com/cities-research/City-Momentum.
