Alicante is the capital of the province of Alacant, the southernmost province of the Valencian Region. The city has long been seen as a beach resort, but its growing ecosystem of tech companies is changing this perception.

The technological revolution is a reality in Alicante's households. The Cloud, smartphones, routers, WiFi and streaming are familiar terms while the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) are facilitating communication and interactivity.

The Distrito Digital Communitat Valenciana was set up to harness the competitive advantages of the Valencian region and to make it the largest innovation ecosystem in the Mediterranean. Within this project, the Open Smart City Alicante was launched, thanks to the collaboration of tech companies and other businesses in the province of Alicante.

Open Smart City Alicante illustrates Alicante’s transition into a smart city for smart citizens. By empowering and educating its citizens, the city intends to make them active participants in the implementation of smart tourism and smart health solutions.

Alicante aims to use new technologies such as AI and quantum computing to grow its business ecosystem by attracting high-tech companies and start-ups.

Alicante was a participant city in the DCC.
