Alicante

The province of Alicante is the southernmost and least extensive province of the Valencian Region. It is the fifth most populated province in the country, with 1,836,459 inhabitants in 2016, the fifth in population density and the most densely populated of the Valencian Community.

The technological revolution is a reality in Alicante's households. Cloud, smartphone, router, WiFi or streaming are already familiar words. The Internet of Things facilitates communication and interactivity. Considerable progress has also been made in the administration of the province, thanks to the advances and public innovations promoted by the Provincial Government. Since the creation of the Modernization area, the Alicante Provincial Council has established itself as a national reference in this area.

To this end, a new Digital Agenda strategy has been created with the aim of transferring the digital revolution from residents’ homes to the streets of the towns and cities, and to the municipalities with the lowest population in the province, so the digital divide is kept to a minimum.

Alicante digital transformation strategy

In Alicante, the Digital Cities Challenge was launched in November 18th, 2018 with a first study to the city on behalf of the expert team. In parallel, the city completed the Digital Cities Self-Assessment Tool, leading to the collection of 34 replies/contributions on behalf of the local community of stakeholders. On the basis of this information, the province team (i.e. province representatives supported by a team of external experts) developed the current digital transformation strategy.
