Arad is the main Western gateway of Romania. Located on a major Pan-European rail and road corridor, it is an important regional, cultural and industrial centre. While only at the beginning of its digital transformation, Arad already shows tremendous potential for economic growth in a digital economy.
The city’s Integrated Urban Development Strategy 2014-2030 guides its development. In accordance with the strategy, the city focuses on implementing smart solutions for urban mobility, green spaces and energy. Arad has also been modernising its infrastructure to enable the implementation of digital solutions across various aspects of citizen’s lives, from e-ticketing to smart lighting.
Arad is committed to improve the quality of life of its citizens and businesses through the innovative use of data-driven and high-tech solutions. Through technology, it seeks to build up a favourable business ecosystem, enabling increased dialogue between companies and universities.
The city is looking to set up a variety of platforms to support and facilitate different aspects of its digital transition, from smart tourism to business innovation, as well as e-governance.
Arad was a participant city in the DCC.
