Chalcis is an ancient city located on the narrowest point of the Euripus Strait. With a population of around 102 000 inhabitants, it is the capital of the Euboea region and the largest city on the island of Euboea, in east-central Greece. A tourist attraction with strong transport links to Athens, the ICC will help drive the local economy as an emerging tourist destination.

The last century has seen the city grow and prosper due to both its popularity as a resort destination (only 69 km away from the Greek capital of Athens) and its flourishing agricultural trade. Chalcis has vast potential to continue growing its tourism sector due to its short distance from Athens, making it reachable by bus, car, train, or via the suburban railway connection. It draws many tourists with its beautiful beaches and thanks to the Euripus Bridge (also called the Chalcis Bridge), Chalcis has been connected to the mainland since 1993.

As a recently formed municipality that was created in 2011 by the merger of five former municipalities, the city will use digital solutions to improve the quality of life of its citizens through e-governance and by fostering initiatives to build smart and sustainable tourism.
