Cork

Cork is the second city of the Republic of Ireland. It is recognised as a premier location for entrepreneurship, innovation, business, investment and tourism. It is a digital gateway to Europe with excellent international connectivity to the USA and UK via transatlantic undersea fibre cable.

Cork City is in an era of profound transformation in terms of its developing economy, increased population and expanding geography. Cork City Council is currently planning for a boundary extension that will result in a city that is approximately 5 times larger in size and  that will see the population of the city increase by over 85,000 people. While the extension will give Cork the potential to become a European city of scale, which is vital when attracting international investment to the region, it will require a significant transformation of the city to optimise the benefits for Cork and its citizens.

Cork

Cork City Council sees this as an opportunity to go beyond an administrative and economic transformation across the city, but also to facilitate a digital transformation. The Digital Cities Challenge is a chance to learn from European best practice and ensure that Cork’s  digital strategy is comprehensive and focused on a city wide transformation.
