Derry

Derry-Londonderry is the second largest city in Northern Ireland. It is the ‘Capital of the North West Crossborder Region’, the largest viable city-region encompassing the Republic of Ireland and the UK. With 34% of its population under the age of 25, it is one of the most youthful city-regions in the European Union.

The city once led the world in the textile industry, but is now repositioning itself as one of the most creative, cultural and innovative areas in Ireland - in life sciences, tourism, engineering, digital and creative industries. Ulster University, with a campus in the city, is ranked in the top 3% of universities in the world and invests €47 million in research and innovation programmes each year. However, the city still faces substantial long-term economic, social and environmental challenges.
