Gliwice is one of the oldest cities in Upper Silesia in southern Poland. A beautiful city with a rich history and interesting architecture, it is a popular tourist destination. It is also an important academic, scientific and industrial centre with a community committed the city’s profile as an innovation hub.

Gliwice is a key point in the Polish transport infrastructure as the intersection between two of its major motorways. With one of the best traffic connections in the country, it is a mandatory passage to access many cities in the Upper Silesian urban area. It is also the seat of Poland’s largest urban port and one of the closest major cities to the Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice, one of the largest Polish airports.

City officials have adopted a pragmatic stance on smart cities, highlighting that the concept must be translated into specific solutions – a process that has begun to take shape, starting with the mobility sector. Already the city is implementing intelligent traffic control systems and innovative video monitoring systems to improve mobility.
