Graz

As Austria’s second largest and fastest growing city, Graz is a hub for South-Eastern Europe that boasts a dynamic economy and has a strong international reputation for research and education, with eight institutions of higher education totalling 62,000 university students, and 14 research and competence centres.

Labelled a UNESCO City of Design, Graz is characterized by attractive living areas and a high quality of life, as highlighted by the latest Eurobarometer city ranking poll. When compared across Europe, Graz inhabitants classified their quality of life as very high with 97% of them evaluating their personal living conditions as positive. It is also the largest economic and employment region in southern Austria, providing nearly 40% of the jobs in the province of Styria.

Building on the positives, Graz’s Smart City Strategy aims to create a low-emission, low resource intensive and energy-efficient Smart City. Its vision for Graz in 2050 is that of a dynamic and compact city characterised by mixed urban usage, attractive public spaces and a high quality of life.
