Logroño is a city in northern Spain, south to the city of Bilbao, situated along the Ebro River. It is the capital of the province of La Rioja with 153,736 inhabitants and a renowned stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The city is a centre of trade in Rioja wine and a producer of wood, metal and textile products. Logroño has been chosen as “the best city to live in Spain” by Merco Ciudad 2010 research.

Logroño’s ambition is to become a smart city in order to meet the challenges posed by climate change through innovative and digital technology. The city has already set up an intelligent system to meet multiple goals simultaneously: the system enables the saving of up to 25% of irrigation water, helps to reduce traffic congestion and implements sustainable building systems.
