Singapore is a city-state in south-east Asia, famous for its diversity and multiculturalism. With over 5.7 million residents within an area of 725.7 km2, it has the second highest population density in the world. In 2019, the World Economic Forum deemed it as the world’s smartest city after ranking the highest in the IMD Smart Cities Index.
The city integrated digital technologies across its health, housing and mobility policies to improve the lives of its citizens and adapted its urban planning to reflect the needs of their residents. The IMD Index shows that the city is successful in providing high quality infrastructure and highly adaptable to new technologies.
Despite such esteemed qualities, the Singapore faces challenges related to affordable housing, unemployment or unfulfilling employment and public transport.
