Iasi builds Romania’s first soundproof park

Iasi City Hall is building Romania’s first quiet park in the middle of one of the nosiest urban areas in the city.

The municipality has begun mounting sound-absorbing panels around the Shahishtar Park in Podu Rosu, along with new urban furniture and chess tables, to transform the area into a quiet recreation space.

"This is the first quiet park that is built in an urban area, it is a park with soundproof panels. It has never been done anywhere in Romania, nor do I think it is in Europe,” said Mayor Mihai Chirica.

The improvement works are part of the municipality’s public services program related to the modernisation of green spaces. Plans are being made for several areas in different neighbourhoods around the city to benefit from similar landscape concepts.
