Registration is now open for the European Commission’s Retail Workshops on how to revitalise and modernise the small retail sector, taking place in Brussels (12 February 2019), Madrid (14 March 2019), Vienna (4 April 2019) and Bucharest (16 May 2019).
The workshops are based on the European Commission policy for retail, contained in the Communication on a ‘European retail sector fit for the 21st Century’ and the guide, ‘Facing the Future’ a practical guide for fostering the revitalisation and modernisation of the small retail sector.
The guide, which is aimed at local authorities, contains ideas and practical suggestions on how to assess the needs of your area and tailor initiatives, based on real-life examples, gathered from success stories across the EU, to help small retailers modernise and digitalise.
An important source of employment and vibrancy in cities, small retailers are facing a changing landscape from ecommerce to the demands of the modern consumer. Supporting small retailers to embrace technological changes and modernise, can help prepare them for the future.
The workshops are a chance to learn first-hand from towns and cities that have successfully implemented initiatives for small retailers and the challenges they overcame. Attendees will have the opportunity to pick up practical tips, learn about sources of finance and network.
