Travel lovers can now visit Thessaloniki's landmarks 'virtually' thanks to the launch of two new virtual reality apps by the northern port city's tourism board.
The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization has created two apps for iOS and Android that allows users to take a virtual reality tour of the city, taking in its monuments and landmarks in 3D.
Thessaloniki VR and Thessaloniki VR (UNESCO edition) are available to download now on smartphone or tablet at the Google Play Store and App Store or from the city's tourism site at thessaloniki.travel/en/useful-information/ios-android-apps.
With the aid of a VR mask, users are treated to the "ultimate wandering experience" through the city's major monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Walls of Thessaloniki, and all the Paleochristian and Byzantine landmarks.
Through the experience, the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization wants to use technology to bring the spirit of Thessaloniki, to those who haven't still visit the city and revive the memories of those who have known and loved her.
Although the apps have not been officially launched yet, Thessaloniki Tourism Organization President Voula Patoulidou confirmed the apps have already been downloaded by users in Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States among other countries.
